To be clear, both boats were outside the jetties (both on west side). The other boat was between the shore and the cut (by maybe 25 yards) while I set up between the cut and the open sea about the same distance from the cut.

W, are you saying next time to be on the shore side if it's an incoming tide, but on the gulf side if it's outgoing?

I will tell you the tide was absolutely ripping in the whole time we were there. I was surprised because I figured with the amount of rain we'd received from the storms that the river would be flowing out, but it was actually a little nerve-wracking maneuvering through the cut because of how fast the water was moving. If it hadn't been moving so hard I might have actually set up on the inside of the jetties to catch any fish that were lying in ambush but I think it was too dangerous for that.
