If character is what people do when no one is looking, it helps some of us to know that God is always looking.

If it helps a person to think that God is watching them, and thereby they are more charitable - understanding - accepting....etc.... Then it is absolutely a good thing.
But if someone who chooses to guide there life by the above, then chooses to denigrate someone else who chooses to live there life with different values... Then they are are no longer following Jesus footsteps... they instead follow the footsteps of a hypocrite.
