Unless the weather is very calm, you are considering launching at the worst possible launch on BL for that boat if the weather kicks up any.
Drive the 10 miles or so, north up the highway through Grand Lake, and across the drawbridge, and turn left to Calcasieu Point Marina. Launching there, it's protected water in 3 directions. Fish the marshes south of the landing for about 2 miles before you again encounter BL on its northern most end where you can decide if you can get out into the open water from there. Same water, far more safe if there are waves.
