yes
i explained to speckdaddy that the split grip is fine for cosmetic purpose?
explain if you take away a 3 inch piece of cork and then try to balance the rod it want work because you will have to place the reel seat in a position that you do not want it to be in example say 10 inches, now if you want it to be a 7 in grip you will need to move the reel seat back to the point that allows you to have a 7 inch lower grip ,now you are going to have a tip heavy rod and this my friend is never going to work balance is one of the most important things in a custom rod, so now i have a tip hvy rod what do i do, oh i know i will couter balance, put a little piece of weight in the lower blank to make the lower end of the blank hvy so that it will pick up the tip thus giving it balance and no one is the wiser"why cut the cork out in the first place" why not just go ahead and build the rod the right way the first time and save all the showmsanship and try to show everyone how smart you are.
does this make sense. i have tried the split grip thang and it just looks like a bunch of xtra work to me, i will stand my ground on the custom billystix that i am going to build "speckdaddy" the billystix way and if i am wrong i will apologize to one and all if i fail, but let's fail first
