Felipe Martinez and his friend Ginger joined me on the Bluewave this morning. We left out of the Reel Inn around 7:30 and had a chilly ride. I'm ready for this cold weather to be over. We made two stops with nothing. The third stop was the ticket. We caught a couple and they came in spurts. The water temp was 49 degrees when we started and the bite got better as the water warmed. The reds worked their way up onto a mud flat. They were full of leeches which just showed us they have been laying in the mud to get warm. Once we caught our limit we stayed for another hour playing catch and release. When I cleaned one big girl she had 3 mullet and an old Shrimp Creole Matrix in her belly. The reds were smoking our Green Hornet Matrix and Blazin Hornet Vortex on a 1/4oz Golden Eye jig head with a steady retrieve. Hopefully this is our last cold spell and our water temperature can increase so we can turn our focus on trout.
