My last trailer boat was 29' at about 8000-9000# ready to fish. Had surge brakes and they worked very well. I pulled with an F250 then F150 and no problems braking with either vehicle. Current boat is a 24" Bluewave PB...no clue on the wet weight...also stops very well with surge brakes behind an F150. I would not complicate my life with electric or elec/hydraulic on a trailer that I will back into salt water. The cons with surge brakes, at least for me, is the knocking on acceleration as the telescoping section extends to the stop....makes me think the ball is loose

. I have used electric/hydraulic on a much larger race car hauler (triple axle with brakes on 2 axles) that was 20,000#+ loaded and my bus
felt like it stopped quicker with the hauler attached but probably not actually factual. Needless to say I was impressed with that set-up but it would be overkill/unnecessary expense/increased maintenance over surge brakes IMO.
