Default Dularge Inshore Fishing Update

Since my last report we have gone from smashing trout to smashing redfish. The end of July and early days of August the trout fishing remained strong along the coast and around the barrier islands of South Central Louisiana. That all changed rapidly when the Atchafalaya river rose and the west winds started charging. That river water covered our entire trout fishing grounds all the way to Last Island. In that situation there's only one thing to do and that is switch to redfish. Almost like clockwork the reds leave the boiling waters of the shallow marsh and head for deeper channels this time of year. The bait of choice is crab on the bottom, sometimes whole and sometimes halved. We found the reds schooled up very thick the last week or so and that should be expected through mid September. I do believe there are still trout to be caught offshore and if we get some calm days I will be trying to locate them. The river has started to fall and the west winds have subsided so I think our area will clean up before the trout start their migration north. If that doesn't work out, I will be all over the bronzebacks until the trout make an appearance inshore.
