Good info by everyone. I do disagree with ankle carry though. Don't want a boot to the face while trying to get your weapon. Stong side carry is the best no matter your weapon choice. Stiff arm and keep your weapon as far away from the bad guy as possible.
I carry a mix of a G23 40cal, XD Tactical 45 and Gov mod 1911. Glocks and XD's are great guns and easy to shoot. I love both of mine. My favorite is my 1911 but that is a carry weapon for experienced shooters. Please don't take that the wrong way and I'm not presuming to know your experience level. Just talking about what I know. The 1911 is heavy also. Especially after 8, 10, 12 hours. It's my winter gun.
