The water in this area is very fresh and muddy right now due to all the rain in the last 2 months.
It will take 3+ weeks of NO RAIN to get some salt water in that area and the Speckled trout will start showing up in greater numbers.
Redfish are not as effected by low salinity water but the lack of normal "bait fish" will keep there numbers down some.
When the Salinity gets up to about 5 ppt [at the I-10 gauge reading] the trout will start to show in greater numbers.
Farther south in Big Lake the water is still very low in salinity and muddy. The very south part of the lake is effected more by the tides and the water is better.
Check this web site to see what the salinity levels are along the ship channel. Check off the "salinity" box and type in 120 under where it says "Days" then press enter to see a history of the gauge readings.
