What a great thing to witness! Darwin in action

. Years back I was about to wrap up an evening squirrel hunt; it was just after sunset. There were two young squirrels on a large oak branch 'twirling' off acorns on the end of the limb. Suddenly one of them freezes then runs about 4 feet back onto the main limb and flattens himself against the limb. About a second later this form swoops out of the semi-darkness, rips the still feeding squirrel out of the branches and flies off, leaves falling in the wake. A great horned owl had his/her supper for that night. I was so happy to not have killed the two...I figured I would let them get a little bigger; the owl thought otherwise
