i got a 55hp johnson commercial on my 14 foot crawfish skiff. the motor is a longshaft. i bought a jackplate. with everything mounted and the jack plate as high as it will go the cavitation plate is 1 inch below the bottom of the boat still. what can i expect with this scenario. i really do not want to drill more holes. i ran it today briefly. never got wide open at about 3/4 throttle a little water splashes straight up from behind the boat. not much. is raising it that one inch worth all that. does any one else have a motor where the cavitiation plate is below the bottom of the boat? pros vs cons?? the boat is a flat bottom. i really aint to worried about speed considering the size of the motor in relation to the boat.
