I came across the same situation with school trout slashing shad at the Cameron Jetty beach. I threw all kinds of artificials (including shad look-alike rattle traps) and not a bite. I had to go cast net for some finger mullet on the river side of the jetties and put them under a popping cork to catch.

I had that happen as well except a white gulp with just a kale hook thru the nose smashed them. Carolina rigged nose hooked gulp will work too. Just drag it in the mud. Did you try a mirodine ?

sometimes u gotta work the bait a bit faster in this situation to get them to bite...Try a silver spoon?

There are times when I can't make the bite anything. I find the shallower the water they are in, the harder it is to get them to bite. Lots of times when they stop busting bait, you can get them to eat. Also mark where they were and come back later. That being said, I seldom use live bait.

I have had them do this in less than a foot of water and when they blow up the go right back in the same spot. Look for a dust cloud and drop in on his head and jig it up and down on top of him. He will get mad and eat it sometimes.

They were busting the water in my case as well. I tried white gulp, pink gulp and chartreuse. I even tried a mirrodine and nothing. I would have pulled out the cast net but I was to busy throwing the tackle box at them.
I forgot to mention in my original post that it was pouring down rain on me the whole time I was doing this............. |
