Default 3/30/15 Follow the bait...

Jason Hattaway came down from Alabama with his brother Jeff and their dad Kenneth. The guys walked down the Reel Inn stairs at daybreak and jumped onto the Bluewave. Slick calm conditions most of the morning which was a positive and a negative. The gnats were out but the trout were biting. I started on a reef about 3ft deep. The guys were catching on Shrimp Creole under a cork while I was picking at them with a Green Hornet tight lined. A lot of throwbacks but with the calm conditions I spotted some trout busting bait so we trolled that way and that's how we located the bigger trout. Powerpole down and once the school left we located another bait ball. We continued that until the falling tide slowed and the bite fell apart. We moved to more open water further south and drifted a reef in 6ft of water. The trout favored the cork so we stuck with it and were rewarded with mostly keepers. Like a light switch the wind kicked up and shut down our bite. We made several moves with some of the areas the water being trash while the fishable water was still dingy. We picked up a few more fish and pulled the 'one more stop' out. That one more stop turned into an hour stop with 2 drifts over a shallow reef. First pass we caught a handful of keepers so we made another drift with about the same results. Probably could've just kept drifting and catching but the day was getting late and we were tired so we took it to the house. Still a lot of dirty water in DU but as long as u can see the boot of your trolling motor you should give it a shot.
