Leader with braid
1. lures with baitcasting rig. Length of leader same for tails as top water? 2. popping cork and shrimp with spinning rig. Is there any advantage to using fluorocarbon over regular mono? |

17-20lb flouro on jig rod 2ft and on tops no leader just tie a loopknot to braid. Flouro sinks. Spin cast pc set up; tie cork to braid then 2ft flouro leader to bottom or cork. Hope this helps

I use 20lb mono as a leader. Bout 3-4 foot just so I can retie several times without having to worry about a short leader.

I use 20 lb fluoro as a leader on everything.
With jigheads, I use 2' of flouro tied to a barrel swivel then to braid. Topwater, I use about 4' of flouro tied directly to braid. Cork tied to braid then flouro under it. Different length depending on bite. Gotten where I use 30lb braid on pretty much everything. |

I use about 4 ft of 20 lb big game for my leader on every thing tied straight to braid with an albright knot with a quickswirl clip on the lures. Used floro in the past and found it made a bigger knot that didint go through the eyes as good as the mono and made the head of top waters sink slightly. Plus mono has more stretch acting as a beter shock leader if you throw a nasty backlash the lure doesnt break off. When i used floro i lost a few $8 CORKIES off like that havent had that problem since the switch to mono

I use 20lb power pro with a 6-7' section of 15-20 lb Fluor leader. Reason I go 6-7' long is so I can just cut n re tie lures w/o having to re tie leader to braid

yea that is def true vanish sucks but all floro will make a bigger knot than mono and make tops head dive a little bit.

Defiantly don't like to tie tops str8 to braid. The braid will twist around hooks and slip in split rings. I use a 2ft mono shock leader on tops. Floro on everything else. Really I like to just run 12-14# mono on my topwater rod. Braid doesn't stretch and has a tendency to pull hooks specially on heavier fish. It's fine on a single hook but If a trout doesn't get it deep trebles pull easy.

That's y u loosen ur drag. And fight the fish so that it doesn't happen that way. Braid to top hAs never failed me. Mono has. Too much curly q memory shat, for me anyway. To each his own

Fluoro is stiffer and gives better action for TW. When you work the rod tip and stop , the stiffness moves the nose side to side more once the lure runs into it. Plus the stiffness prevents it from getting tangled like a loose braid.

Braid also sinks too fast once it gets wet ( unless its super slick ) pulls the bait down. If your line is curling its time to change it playa.

I know you not teaching me how to fight a big girl huh Gizzle ?? They got a few 6-7 pounders still swimming that would get a laugh out of that.

Never lossed a big fish on top. Never caught a "big" one on top either tho. Once I was with a BL guide and a big one hit my top and swam warp 10 straight to boat and I couldn't keep up with her and she spit it. Too much slack. But to say I've never lossed a hawg would be the biggest lie ever. I've lost big trot in the 6-7lbs range maybe more at least 5x.

Just not on tops. All on popping cork. Before I even thought about throwing bait cast or tops for that matter
