Default Catfishing on Calcasieu River

Going to Sam Houston Jones State Park for the weekend and was contemplating setting a trot line or two for my five year and myself to mess with, any suggestions on bait and North or South of the park? Probably bring the bream rods also and try getting into some of them also while we are there.

Chicken hearts will yield lots of mud cats and a few channels also. Mud cats not the best table fare but should be fun for your 5 year old. North of Sam Houston on Houston river.

Bring some old bread to feed the Deer and coons.

The small bream in the ponds love the bread also.

Was it on the West Fork about a mile north of the park launch? I have a buddy that has a camp near ours that's been doing good with his nets. I plan on setting mine on Thursday and checking them on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Bring some deer corn too. They love that. I've seen the deer over by the cabins near dark.
