oh yea there was some downside to the day.
first, soon as the bite starting getting good I caught a lil hardhead. Well rather than take the chance on grabbing him to get it off the line like I normally do, I decided I'd just unhook him with the pliers and drop him right in the water. soon as I grab the hook in the pliers, that sucker somehow flopped and stuck his fin about 1/2" into my thumb. It got me good enough to where my dad had to come from the back of the boat and yank him out of my finger because when i went to pull it out it wouldn't come out. When I looked down at it the first time the part of the fin that I could see was about 3/16" thick. It hurt like a son of a gun, matter of fact that happened around 730 or so and its still throbbing as Im typing this at 345. so if anyone knows any secrets, let me know. right now all I've found that gives really good relief is hot water. idk why but its almost instant relief. Then later in the day i sit on the front deck as we just drifting and fishing a spot that we had caught a few earlier. I go to cast and my hook caught something on the forward motion and snapped my castaway skeleton rod in half. But thing is the hook didn't even stick in whatever it caught on, because the rod snapped and still casted out, does that sound like some kind of defect that I should maybe try to get a warranty claim on or something, or is this normal. I dont really think it was something that should have caused a break. And the break was a clean snap right in the middle of the rod But even after all that we still had a great time and may have found a new regular hole. |

You better make sure all the fin is out of your finger. If not get ready for a serious infection. Better try some peroxide or something to keep it clean.

Soak it in some Epsom Salt. That should give you some relief.

My trawling buddies keep the Green Rubbing Alcohol for whenever they get picked by a hard head. It works but it burns like the fire.

I'll pass on the pee. I just did a depth test on it and easily put a straight pin halfway in the hole and couldn't feel it. May could have gone deeper

if it happens again, rub some catfish slime on it. (sounds stupid, but it works) As far as the rod goes, you sure you wasnt under any trees?

i actually took my girlfriend to the hospital because of a hardhead fin. the doctor imediately put her hand in really hot water, as hot as she could stand it. hot water is the only thing that will neutralize the venom in the fin. warm water out the pisser on an outboard works well. whatever you do, do not ice it down or put anything cold on it, it will only make things worse. the pain will go away after a few minutes with the hotwater. and as always, make sure to put some antiseptic on it to prevent infection.

Delacroix. Conditions were pretty good but they could definitely be better. Can't wait to learn the area more
