Default Wiers

I hear from a good source that the wiers (including grand) are going to be closed to control saltwater intrusion in to the marsh. This means no more access to fish behind the wiers from the like side. Anyone else have any info on this?

There is plenty of marsh for the shrimp and bait to go.

Not really......They will get tired of wasting gas and will not go....Because they will not have the weirs to fish......All the bank Burners will now burn a bank else where...

Public access will be from the east side. No word on how or what size boats. I would think something along the line of a 40hp thing.

Well, I don't think they (USFWS) will "close" the wiers. For one, the only public access is from the lake. That section of the refuge is actually enclosed by thousands of acres of Miami Corp., Sweet Lake, and other private owners. There is no public access from the east. Lease holders would be able to fish it. And, in case no one noticed last year, the whole reason that all 5 weirs' gates were lowered last year was to slow the saltwater intrusion down. If you noticed Grand especially, only one gate would allow water in while all 5 gates would allow water out. Lambert... all closed for the majority of the year. And honestly, I blame the refuge for the death of all those redfish behnd there. They could have a least opened the gates to allow those fish a chance to escape during those hard weeks of freezing weather.
