Default LA House Bill 63

They want to raise taxes on tobacco here in louisiana...$0.70 a pack, $7 a carton, undisclosed for smokless.

Found this out this morning when I went to get my grizzly from tobacco plus..they have sheets which are basically a petition already printed for the representatives. They are asking everyone to sign. If you are a tobacco user and go to tobacco plus, please sign one. The last thing working people need is to pay more for what gets us through the day (gas, tobacco).. Next they will tax coffee.

Edit: Did not post in politics forum, figure more people read the general discussion.

props to you. I have cut waaay back on cigarettes, slowing down on snuff. if this passes, I might just stop all use. I need to anyway. I like paying $7 a roll here instead of over $3.50 a can in dallas.

I quit Skoal when it hit $1.50 in 1991.
Had a few nightmares for a couple months, but glad I quit.
Now I spend my money on beer and whiskey.

Used that smoking patch when it first came out.

I tried cold turkey, didn't work for more than an hour or so.

Any type of addiction is controlled by the mind. Don't rely 100% on gum, pills, patches, ect. Untill you have made up your mind you want to quit for good you will never kick the habbit. I quit smoking cold turkey with no help what so ever. Now that it has been almost 3 months I cannot even stand the smell.

I wish they would put a "return" fee of $ 1 per cigarette butt [$ 20 per pack] on all cigarettes that have filters.

Maybe this would keep SOB smoker from just throwing them on the ground..... they are everywhere.

X2...even when I was smoking I always put my butts in the ash tray. You should see the vermillion river in lafayette after a big rain...looks like a giant floating ash tray!

.70 hike?? dayyyyum! i remember buying a pack of smokes for .75 then .85, then $1.00 a pack.. i said " man if they hit $1.50 a pack , i'm quittin!" ..of course i didn't quit and it was always a gradual increase in price/tax, so it didnt hurt that bad, but tackin on an extra $7.00 a frickin carton is really out of line and pretty discriminatory. to me, it singles out a group of people and really puts the screws to 'em.

Used to LOVE dat Skoal, gave it up and became a social smoker on the weekends... Marlboro Light was a great counterweight to a good whiskey drink, the wife had to quit social smoking and drinking for health reasons and I gave it up as well (the smoking part) and dont miss it...

I didnt realize how addictive smoking was till trying to quit, but was allot easier with the both of us giving it up at the same time...

I am sympathetic to that for sure, but with taxpayers having to pick up the health care cost, and smoking in particular contributing to so many health issues in the level of poverty, the cost has to be put somewhere.

What always amazes me, is how people can come up with the money for tobacco and not the money for new tires on a vehicle, or thier 401K or, or, or...........

Had a guy once that worked for me hitting five cans of dip a day............when he asked for a raise for a new boat (like that was a good reason) I challenged him to quit dipping. He was ticked off.........but he quit. Likely could have had his wife for a weekend easier than him quitting at the time..........guy still thanks me.

Its easier to pay a dollar and a half and have a can of dip and drink water which is free than it is to pay for a half gallon of milk. If anyone really wanted to end poverty, NECESSITIES would be cheaper than LUXURIES. Texas has that figured out...Gallons of milk for 1.50....and the tobacco is more expensive ($6+ a pack, 3.50+ a can). I can get a gallon of milk in Southlake texas for cheaper than a half gallon here. Also, when I went home, DFW's average price per gallon of gasoline was cheaper than it was in lake charles when I left...and we have oil down here...doesn't make sense.
