I really think they ought to have defibulator machines at all sporting events. Although this was a 'freak' accident, an $800 tool could have possibly saved his life.

My wife told me about it this morning. My 11 year old plays in the league here in Gonzales.....I guess you never really think that this could happen....very sad.

Can't help but wonder what the kid that threw the pitch is going through...and will go through for the rest of his life.

I got hit in the stones squaring around to bunt (nothing funny about this). It makes me think to back then when I was playing tournament ball and we would usually face pitchers throwing in the 60s-upper 70s. It can happen anytime, any place. Actually, I did get hit in the cheek by a 70mph fastball and in the left kidney by a 80mph fastball. Its a sad day in baseball today.

I also hit a kid in the head pitching (I could throw that ball). He had a cracked helmet already and really no padding and I threw about a 70-75mph fastball that hit right in that crack, put him in a coma for 3 days. I never left the hospital, missed 4 games including the championship. We've been best friends ever since but there's not day goes by that I don't think about that.

I'd still play the game. Love it, no way I'd get it out of my blood.
