Default Ling..

Looking for some help on Ling...With the water being so nice close in was wondering how far out i'd have to run to target Ling? I've never targeted Ling and my offshore skills are limited, any help on targeting these great tasting fish is greatly appreciated, wanting to make a run this weekend if the forecast holds up. Also what line class and tackle needed?

thanks

Default ling

biglaketiger, head to the buoys when the seas allow it. i saw a few out there last weekend around buoy marker 26. head out past the jetties till u see them circling the buoy. throw something with some action on it and hang on...usually the further south you head on the ship channel markers the better water clarity and more ling and triples show up..hope this helps and good luck..

30 ft of water u should start seeing some ling. The farther u go the bigger they get. I use 30 to 60 pound braid. Live mullet will do the trick but a big jig or swim bait will also work

I use 65 lb powerpro. I've caught them as close as five miles out. I like either gulp shrimp or finger mullet.

If you have room to fight them I'd go with the lighter tackle for the challenge, but if you don't have room to fight them I'd go with the heavier gear. I've caught and seen 50#ers as close as 5 miles out. I found that the mullet about 6-8 inches long work best.

I use 20 - 30 lb class spinning reels.

My favorite lure - an 8" chartreuse curly tail grub on a 3 oz jighead.
