Default 9.22.2011 Limited Out on Love Bugs

Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to be out on Big Lake. The water was great everywhere and we put together a 3 man limit of quality size trout today fishing all around the lake. Most fish came off of slicks. Topwater bite was ON today. Also boated some fish on salty grubs and Lil' Johns. Sorry, no pictures of the fish today. I was in a friend's boat and he got tired of breathing in love bugs so I didn't get a box shot. I did snap a couple quick shots of the swarm that got us on the way in though. The first picture was taken around 11:00 after we stopped to fish some birds and were catching fish every cast, but my buddy got tired of getting lovebugs in his nose and mouth so we called it a day right there. The next two were taken a few minutes later at 50 mph and they were STILL hanging on. We were literally in the middle of the lake and rode through HUGE swarms of them...I couldn't see out of my sunglasses once we got to the launch because they were covered with love bug remnants. I honestly cannot remember ever seeing love bugs so bad, especially for being in the middle of Big Lake. They were so thick you literally could not breathe too hard or you would suck them in. Anyway here are the pics of our Love Bug limit, nonetheless great day on the water!

I'm assuming it was Mother Nature's way of telling us that we had enough fun and caught enough fish for the day, because they all came at once and chased us right off the lake lol

The worst part was riding back to Cal Point from the south end of the lake through all of them. You think rain in the face hurts, try love bugs in the face. The console on that boat is so small and low profile, and we had 3 grown men with heads pressed together behind a tiny windscreen trying to get away from them lol. We got a good laugh out of it

Yea i couldn't believe it. We had love bugs getting caught on our fishing line on our rods that were standing in the rod holders as we were running back to the launch...unbelieveable how many there were.

Geez, are they that bad on land over there, too? I've fished Breton Sound and Black Bay in May and you never saw a love bug...although they'd be smashed all over your boat windshield from the drive down.

I just sent this pic to a buddy. This is unbelievable!
