Default DU Banquet

Went to the Vinton DU banquet tonight at V-RV park. We had a good time and enjoyed a great gumbo, potato salad and king cake. Washed it all down with some beer and cocktails.

Next one is in Hackberry March 8th -- who's going? Food there is awesome! ! ! and lots of free beer.

I am intrested in a corporate table for sc for the Marsh event. I believe Kirk Stansel is in charge of the Hackberry function?

Has DU been losing support here in south louisiana? I havnt heard anything about them in a long time, didnt even know about any banquets going on. Seems all I hear now is Delta Waterfowl. Heck I even got a Delta Waterfowl hat on my head now. Nothing against DU, just an observation.

I dont support any organization trying to keep ducks north of us...delta waterfowl is fighting the issue but really it's almost a pointless battle.

Hope...Look up ALUS on Delta Website....Like a CRP for Canada....If this takes off, it can be as huge a duck producer as CRP was and still is....It's never pointless....

DU has lost some support due to ignorant people putting blame for things that no human can control. Simple matter is if there is no cold weather to make ducks migrate south then they will only go as far as they have to in order to find food, warmth, etc. If you look at 2000-2001 hunting season it was the best it had been in nearly 20 years. Look at the weather that year -- cold up north, cold down here. Snow covered all the way to central arkansas and texas panhandle.

Opinions vary to us ignorant people I suppose but I'm pretty sure DU is doing more than just relying on the weather...of course it is a factor not saying it is not...but this is an argument a du member and a non du member will go on for days over so y even start

Ducks will migrate until they can get to food. Would you go to a Ruth chris steak house 45 min away when you have in your home town. I'm all for helping out the breeding grounds to help out the hatch but duck hunting has come extremely difficult compared to 15 or 20 years ago. Does our winters have something to do with this, yes. Does du have something to do with #s of ducks that come down, yes. However mother nature will always win but I will be the first to say that the ducks do come down just not as easy to access as they were 15 years ago.

Not to argue, but how can DU stop a million year old migration pattern for millions of ducks. simply absurd.

They can't. They can help change it by developing more duck habitat midway down the flyway. But I firmly believe the thing that hurts our hunting the most is pressure. When you have an a$$hole in every single pond and field blasting at ducks 80 yards away, do you think they will hang around?
