Default Cow Island Lake?

Does anyone have any reports from Cow Island Lake? The river should be high enough at 14 feet to get in there easily. I haven't heard any reports from there in years, but I'm thinking about going this weekend.

We headed to Cow Island Lake on Sunday morning. We stopped at a store in Butte Larose. A local fisherman talked us out of going there, saying that the river was still not high enough to get in there with my boat (21' Xpress). He convinced us to head elsewhere, so we went to Big Alabama. We only caught 3 decent bass. Tried beetle spins for whatever would bite and caught a variety of small sacalait, bream and goggle eyes.

Does anyone else have any info on Cow Island?

Default Para Sail

EP: NOAA is projecting the river to be at 13.5 ft. at Butte la Rose this weekend. The only way that I believe you could get into Cow Island is to attach a Para Sail to your boat, get up enough speed, and fly in. I tried that trick last year but just as I got airborne a gust of wind came up and I ended up in Warner. I caught three red snapper and a sideline pass from Drew Brees. The Game Warden gave me a citation for one over the limit and stepping out of bounds.

I have only been once and that was with a friend of mine that has a 12 foot aluminum flat with a 9.9. The water was about 3 feet below the dam at the entrance so we had to drag the boat up a little hill and then down into the lake. There were a bunch of pvc pipes and that definitely helped. We caught alot of bream. Water was super clear and lots of grass but you can maneuver through it with little difficulty. When the water does come up and I can float my flat across the dam, then I will give it another try.

With a small boat..... about 14.5 feet river reading is the magic number to get into Cow Island lake.

By the end of June, the grass usually starts to get really bad in the lake making it hard to get around.

It doesn't look like I'll be able to make it in there with my boat anytime soon. I really can't make it the next two weekends anyway. Latravcha, thanks for the offer. Maybe later in the spring. Let's see what the river does. I really hope it drops hard anyway so that the saltwater fishing on the reefs kicks in earlier this year. Thanks for the info!
