Default Top Water Preference

I'm still learning the basics of coastal fishing, and I've got a long way to go. - But I'm hooked, and cannot wait to get back to BL next month

I've noticed on your posts that a lot of you have different preferences for top water lures.

I have a limited budget, and don't want to go overboard buying a variety of lures (which is always a danger with me), so I'm wondering, other than simple confidence, why you prefer a particular model of top water lure.

None super spook. I find that the bigger the bait is the easier it is to make it dance..

I like x-raps and skitterwalks.
Some baits make too much sound (top/she dog), but these make just enough. Can't go wrong with a mullet color. Xrap 09 on top, skitterwalk on bottom

Have you ever had problems makin that xrap walk? I have them, and of all the baits I have ever had, that one is the only one I have problems "walkin the dog". Any suggestions? or have you had that problem with em?

I've caught many of trout on a black with orange belly catch 2000, but my favorite has to be a skitterwalk bone color.

Heddon topwaters have been responsible for more trout and reds than Rapalas ever will. That doesn't mean they don't work, however. Just sayin'....

That's my first Xrap. Fished it about 6 times. In calmer water I don't have any problems. Higher wind makes it tough but haven't had problems. I use a slower retrieve than some with a longer twitch motion. I also use a 7' medium action with a fast tip and 10-12#. mono.

i forgot about the donk one day me and my brother-n-law was in rockefella and we must have caught 50 bull reds on them suckers just for fun. It was a rush watching them big wakes coming like a freight train to crush that bait.

I've got 8 donks. The big ones. I find them to be too loud.
