Default Grand Isle report

Got back from surf fishing the island today. Got to the island at about 2pm on tuesday. The surf looked great on the west end when I got onto the island. My buddy and I hit the surf for about 20 mins with no action. Left and checked in at Ricky's. From there we went over to the state park. Tide was going out and we caught 7 or 8 assorted fish (sand trout, throwback speck, spanish mackeral, black drum, hardhead) with no keepers specks. Wednesday morning we drove down to the west end to start out as the park doesnt open until 7:00am. Nothing going the few minutes we fished there. Hit the state park for 7:00 and fished till 10:00. Caught two keeper specks and that was it. The undertow was impressive with the large incoming tide around the rocks we were fishing. We decided to drive to elmers wednesday afternoon but after scoping out the area and talking to some guys we decided to head back to the island. Hit the surf in the middle of the beach and my buddy lost one good one. After that we headed back to the state park. We caught 8 nice trout at the park that afternoon, plus another black drum, few rat reds, black tip shark. Hit the surf at the park this morning and caught one keeper and that was it. Big south wind this morning unlike the light north wind wednesday. Big under tow again this morning which made moving around difficult. I imagine guys in boats could run and find a few fish but we were boatless. Tough fishing but had a good time.

Gulp shrimp and pogies as well as many other plastics. Some under a cork, most tightlined. No shrimp or live bait tried.

My brother had a tough time in GI in the surf yesterday too. Too rough. He had to resort to Plan B & caught fish in the marsh. (boatless as well.) He was using live shrimp and Gulp.
