Default Rod & Reel Suggestions

Hey guys just got back from a week at Holly Beach, caught crabs and watched guys fishing a lot along the beach around the rock piles.
Decided we want to go back in late Oct. after talking to all the locals.
I love the place.

My surf fishing days been over for almost 30 years when I fished around the horn of Florida in about every deep hole there was....

I used ultra light Penn open face because you can actually take them apart and fix them when they get too much whatever.

Used 8 pound test mostly but now thinking 10-12 since the water there is murky no need for ultra light from that angle.

I like my rods to be long, thin, stiff, and lightweight. I need to start first with finding the right rods, then pick the pulley.

These days there is a blur of junk out there, I can't tell anymore, and I just want to do this once and be done with it since our hours there will be few and they will last awhile....

I need some suggestions for a good stiff stick and a decent pulley fellas...

Duce rods are the way to go. Very sensitive, extremly light weight and you can cast a mile with them.

Shimano hard to beat off the shelf- Lifetime warranty. If I buy a rod off the shelf it will be a Shimano

What about good reels? In my heyday Penn was the best, is that still true?

I fish with the Penn 4400ss. I have two and I recently bought two Penn Captiva cv2 2000. The newer Penns are okay, but they don't have a reverse/antireverse switch, but that's minor. I still prefer my 4400's though. Not saying they are the best, but I have had my two 4400ss for almost 15 years. They are looking a little rough around the edges, but they still work reliably and I trust them. Nothing against Shimano reels, but I'm partial to my Penns. Oh and I shoot a Wingmaster too, lol.

No advice on the rods. Personally I find it hard to pay $100 or more for rods, but to each his own. Heard good things about the Shimano rods and their lifetime warranty. My next rods will probably be them, if they aren't too darn expensive. Have a buddy that swears by the G Loomis rods, but his pockets are a little deeper than mine.

I use curado reels on allstar classic rods. $200 for the whole setup and it hasn't let me down yet.

Also, the new Abu Garcia reels are very nice... Better made than the new shimanos IMO.

Shimano makes good reals also. Lews is good real for the money.

Shimano currently has a Zeles combo for sale around $100 I bought one at fin and feathers in Lafayette but I saw the same combo for sale at both tackle shops in Lake Charles. I have no complaints about it.

Check the stick Em rod. Rods are about 80 bucks and the new reels should be ready in a few weeks. Stick Em rods and Outcast reels. These are a nice combo that is in your price range.
