Default identify fish

can anyone tell me what kind of fish this is? we have been catching them on the edge of the ship channel. they are about 8"-10" long and shades of brown with black splotches on the body.

Looks like channel mullet...there was a thread on here one time about em if you search for it. I think I've heard they were good to eat

taste about like a croaker if you ask me....and they go under many names black mullet, kingfish, whiting,

Dang good eatin fish.

I fillet everything I catch.
If it is oily or bloody, I throw it back.
If not, I eat dat.

Southern Kingfish/ Southern Kingcroaker/ Whiting. I've seen a few of those have been showing up around the lake lately. Fry dat.

In case you still don't know, that's a channel mullet or whiting.
