building deer blind

I am looking at building a 4x6 deer blind. Materials cost around $300 at Home depot for everything I will need. However, it will take me almost a full day to complete it. Does anyone know of any used blinds for sale or any vo-tech school who builds blinds around the Lake charles area? I see some being built around Beaumont but have not seen any around here.

Don't know about any local schools building stands like some in E Texas do. If you have time, check out the cull piles at the lumber yards and the uh-ohs at the paint counter. You can get some pretty decent deals on lumber. It may be a little warped or bowed, but it is just a deer stand. The paint counters will often put a tint in it for you to get the colors drab. Lowes will sell a gallon of oops paint for 5 or 10 bucks.

I also am always on the lookout for good lumber and plywood people throw away. Me and a buddy have built 3 boxes for little to nothing except hardware and legs.

i seen one yesterday that must have fell off a trailer on the side of the road in houma on the Eastside down ramp of the prospect overpass. I'll give it a few days, if no one picks it up its mine.

Why build a 4' x 6' box blind ??? Just won't to share a tip from someone who's built several... The 4' x 5' box blinds work a lot better... IF your only going to hunt with one (1) person in the blind... When hunting if you sit in the center of the blind the 4' x 5' gives exactly enough room to put your gun out each side window and let it rest on the box comfortably... You also have the same comfortable rest when you put your gun ot the front window to make a shot as well... If it is 6' wide you sometimes find yourself being to far away from the window to have a rest that is comfortable and stable... This is just a little food for thought... Another thing to keep in mind... You don't need to put your stand 10' off the ground... They work just as well if they are six inches to 4 feet of the ground... This way you can put a set of walk up steps on the back and not have to climb steps when it is cold, wet, and icey conditions... Paint the inside a flat black with dark browns and dark greens to help breakup the outline of the hunter inside the blind... It helps a lot... Oh, and put a chair in it that is comfortable and does not squeek when you sit down or move.. Good luck on your hunting season...

Gonna build it 4x6 cause it is always my son and I hunting together. I have built 5x6 and 6x6 before but want to go economy this time and not have to buy the extra $100 in materials for a larger blind. I use office chairs that are on rollers and swivel for my chairs. Have about a doxen in my friends barn. A good can of silicone spray stays in my blind to squirt if they get squeeky
