Made a mid afternoon trip and tried something a little different. Went to big lake today which I usually don’t fish that much except for a couple of places that or off the beating path. went out to about the middle of the lake and started to fish the basket reef area and point around the area. Picked up some trout while fishing in the area and then seen a small group of birds working and picked up some trout under the birds. The trout were nothing to brag about. While going to one of off the beating path places found another small group of birds working and picked up a few more trout. If I would have been out looking for trout it would have been trip over on the second set of birds. Made it to the location I was heading to and bingo the marsh donkeys were there and hungry. Played catch tag and release with the red fish and the ones that were the right size for cooking well they r getting cooked. Ended up catching one red that was an even 26 inch long and right a 9 lbs. I kept the trout in the live well for tag and release purposes plus the partner I had fishing with me wanted to keep some, but when we got to the dock he changed his mind and we ended up giving them to two old ladies that were fishing off the dock. After they were given the fish they called it a day.
The water look decent and was running about 76 to 77 degrees. We were dealing with very little tidal movement. All the trout were caught on a couple of things today. Glow and Chart. Jerk Jr. on the yellow mouth jig heads and under a popping cork not a Bang Time cork couldn’t get any from the last time mine broke. The reds were caught on Skeeter Walk Baby Trout and Bone. Like I said wanted to try something different. Have fun and have a great weekend.
