Default thoughts and opinions

So I have been thinking about getting a new craft for fishing this spring .Ive been looking at the nu canoes at pack and paddle.Ive been thinking of buying one and getting a 2.5 horse power outboard. To put on it so i dont have to work about getting to my spot how ever far it may be.Im wordering if anybody has had any experience with nu canoes,Or just any general knowledge on small boats with outboards i need to know.I dont want to regret spending so much money. The nu canoe appeals to me because you can store your rods and gear inside of it.Any pros cons or advice is much appreciated

Default Gheenoe

Have you considered a Gheenoe? They will go anywhere a canoe can go and are very stable. They will handle an outboard up to 20HP. I weigh 220 lbs. and I can stand on the side of mine without tipping it. I think Pack and Paddle sells them.

Ya i dont want to deal with a trailer ive been fishing out of a pirouque and catching pretty good. But its easily swamped specially in the shipping channel. The nu canoes are very stable and easy to fish out of while still being easy to paddle.I wonder what would happen with a four hourse power out board. On the back it doesnt weight much more.

The scuppers in the nucanoe allow you to go in rougher conditions than you would in a pirogue, gheenoe, or jonboat. I would do some homework online and I'd get a tiller extension so you can sit in the middle of the nucanoe, rather than at the stern.

I feel safer in my kayaks than I ever did in my gheenoe because of the scuppers.

I tried one out at a demo they are sweet very stable....I think a outboard is overkill though a 55lb minnkota with a optima battery would be perfect.

I dont know the idea of storing my gear inside the boat and having dang near a surf board with an outboard sound like fun to me.I dont know it might not work out like im thinking. But i would like to be able to launch out of calcasieu point and get to say the texaco cut in twenty minutes or so as apposed to a 45 minutes paddle and im tired by the time i start fishing. The motors with the internal tanks seem like they would be easier than a heavy battery.I might go with the four horse and hope its not to much

I would be concerned about the plastic mounting area holding up to the torque of a outboard. Not to mention it would probably sit low in the rear with that much weight. You could mount a battery up front for a trolling motor.

And it would be alot closer to launch at spicers....you are braver than I am tackling the ship channel with all the traffic in a yak.

I do it already in a pirouque.I know im tempting fate and one day im gonna flip and im gonna lose my gear and just have a lame experience. Its rated for a two horse power out board ive even seen a video on utube were a guy had one rigged up and he was at 3/4 throttle and he was going 9 miles an hour.My ideal speed is about 15 miles an hour.Im gonna try it out if Obama is willing on my tax return.Being able to cross distance in a resonable amout of time is my goal.Because i plan to crawfish on the weekends with it.There are also a lot of prime spots in the basin that you can pull over the bank into that this rig would be ideal for.
