Default Remote Start w/ Keyless Entry

What is a good brand to buy for this? I want something that'll be reliable but I don't want to break the bank just for this. I'd like to spend less than $100 if possible.

Not going to happen. Remote start modules alone run upwards of $50. You can get a budget remote start kit for around $175 installed. A decent one (Viper or similar) will run $250+ with remote start. I just paid $300 installed for my Viper with 1 mile range, paging, etc.

O ok, I didn't know how much they went for. I can put up with a little heat or cold for a couple minutes for that price lol.

pLEASE READ AND REMEMBER THIS; One of my clients was in Houston this week and had his truck broken into. They stole his pistol, GPS, and radar detector out of the hotel parking lot without breaking a window or jimming the lock. It seems that there is a way to open the locks on trucks with remote locking devices if you use them. Houston PD advised him to lock his truck from now on on the door instead of the remote. My guess is that there is a way to hack the radio sequence on remote door locks.

FYI Regards

I have my own car stereo business. If all you are looking for is a remote start with keyless entry, they are relatively cheap. The installation is where you spend money. Install price will depend on what vehichle you are putting it on. There are alot of different brands out there. Just remember you get what you pay for. As R Little stated above, his client got his truck stolen. The honest truth is that if somebody want your stuff, they will get it. You can make it harder for them to steal, but a professional theif can steal a car in under a minute. With a little practice anyone can unlock a car door with a slim jim as well. It is true that there is a way to "clone" a keyfob remote for another persons car. $100 @ radio shack or Ebay will get you what you need. Lower end keyless entry systems don't have very good security chips & most don't have any @ all. The higher end brands like Compustar, Viper (DEI) & Clifford do have really good security features built into their remotes & are not easily stolen.

Concerning car alarms. Just like remote starts / keyless entry systems, you get what you pay for. Personally I refuse to sell anything but the 3 brands I listed above. They are the 3 best brands, hands down. A car alarm is only as good as the person who installed it. A starter kill is a common feature on most high end alarms & is designed to disable your vehichles starter when the alarm is activated. This means even if you have a key to the car, you can't start the car without turning the alarm off. This feature does no good what so ever if it is not properly installed. If someone charges you $50-$75 to install an alarm system, 9 times out of 10 they only hooked up the shock sensor, door locks & remote start if the alarm had one.

The most important things to remember when buying electronics for a car are:

Always buy from an authorized dealer
Always use M.E.C.P. (mobile electronics certified professional) installers

If you want my opinion on a alarm/remote start, it's hard to go wrong with a Viper 5901.

Just my $0.02

I don't want the alarm, just remote start and keyless entry, nothing fancy or over the top. I just wanna be able to start my truck a few minutes early when it's 100 degrees and 30 degrees outside.

Here's a terrific deal I happened to run across on one if you can install yourself or know of a reputable installer:

http://www.gooddeals18.com/product/1...11ec717b95e721

This is made by DEI, and is basically the same as a Viper 160XVL for only $59. I would jump on this quickly if you are really wanting one, because it won't last long.

Thanks Shad, I think I'm gonna jump on that.
