Default Newbie needing help

Hey guys I am very new to the saltwater fishing scene. I have no desire to know your secret hotpot I just need to know the basics of getting started. I am looking to catch Specks and reds. I need to know what type of lures to use and how to present them. I do need to know general area to fish. I will be fishing big lake mostly for reds and specks.

I got into an area yesterday that had fish striking the surface and chasing bait but I could get them to bite. I saw several red including a couple that were in the 25-30 inch class. Again I couldn't buy a bite.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I have limited time I can devote to fishing the area I live more than a hour away and my work keeps me gone at least half the time so I shouldn't be hindering any of the regulars. Thanks for any help you can give.

Browse the reports. Tons of info there.

When there is that much bait in the area, it cam be hard to get them to bite. Gulp is a good bait to have on especially for redfish.

A Mirrolure Lil' John on a 1/8 Yellowmouth jighead is hard to beat right now.

secondly get yourself a hook and line map as well. Give you the major locations in the lake.

Check out the thread I started a couple of weeks ago. Also, I second the Hook and Line map. It will show all the names of the places these guys will tell you.
