Default Security Surveillance

Any of you guys run Security Cameras at your house or business? Any recommendations on brands to choose or brands to stay away from?

I'd like to put a couple of cameras in/on my house and a couple on my shop and yard area... Do they make wireless cameras or would I have to run cables from the house to the shop to handle both areas with 1 system?

I'll be looking for 1 that has smartphone notification, motion detection, night vision capability, and at least 4 cameras. Any help is greatly appreciated.

We used National Networks to get our cameras and DVR installed at our business. Works great. You would have to ask them about hooking it up to your phone and all that but the outside ones do see well in the dark.

As someone who has looked at hours of video in criminal investigations, please - please - please get the best bang for your buck, whichever plan you use. So many times we get video that is useless because of cheap cameras or poor installation (usually pointing camera to wrong area) that it makes us wonder why they even had them!

If you can afford a local alarm company to monitor an alarm while having a camera, your chances of loss from burglary are reduced. Criminals will avoid a business that has an alarm system, and cameras will give you a piece of mind knowing the place is monitored. Most alarm systems can feed video to your phone or tablet. Motion sensors inside a large building sure do help us when we make entry. I have deployed K9 to a specific building or area on numerous occasions due to knowledge of motion from monitoring company.

Does National Networks just go set up the whole system for a 1 time fee or is there a monthly fee for them to maintain the system?

I was looking for one of the DVR type systems that you install at your house and connects to your internet for notification... something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo

but maybe I should look into something different? That was the reason for the post... Thanks for the responses and let me know what you think?

I believe the set up was a one time fee for us with national. The DVR is pretty stout and can also double as a PC. Any maintenance I think is a call out basis and you would be charged accordingly. I'm sure I could have set up a kit from new egg myself, I have a good peace of mind knowing my equipment is a little better and is properly installed.

A good friend of mine just started a surveillance company in Lafayette, Viking Security. He just had mouth surgery so he's kind of under the weather for a few days. Maybe give him a call on Monday if interested.

Guy at work has installed lots of them, buys DVR off Amazon and buys cameras sesperate, like others mentioned, buy best camera for important areas. He spends around $500 for total system and does it himself. Sam's has about 3 or 4 to choose from

We install systems. If you would give us the opportunity to earn your business I would be happy to come givee you a bid. They do make wireless systems, so you wouldn't have to run cables out to your shop. This type of system does require a network video recorder however and typically is more expensive. I would be glad to earn your business. Give me a call 337-534-2056.
