what size motor is it?
I might have a repair manual i can email you. also what kind of alarm is it doing, steady or intermittent? if i remember correctly steady means overheat and intermittent means oil problems. |

90 hp, has a strong stream , and the alarm is a steady buzzing. The water temp doesn't seem that hot when the alarm is going off. Got me puzzled

well if you have put in a new thermostat seems to me as though you must have a problem with your oil (either pump bad or something.... )
sending you a pm. |

Buddy of mine just had the same issue with a yamaha 150 , after doing everything you did he pulled the heads and cleaned out all the water passages and has not had a problem since. I am a huge yamaha fan but apparently this is a flaw on yamahas. Hope this helps

Get your heads cleaned out at a good shop. I had the same problem with my 115 2 stroke yammy. Apparently the passage hole is really small and they bore it out to help with the problem. I got mine done in march and havent had a single bit of trouble since

Had the same problem with my Yamaha 90. Removed the water jacket and found that it had brown **** built up in it. I scraped it out with a screwdriver and have had no further problems. Google "cleaning water jacket on yamaha outboards." Very common problem, if indeed that is the problem. Good luck. I hope that's all it is!

Ya haas are famous for the build up in the jackets. Where I used to work at years ago it was a well known problem.

I had a Yamaha 90 hp that would do the same thing when running over 4200 rpm changed thermastat, temp censor, flushed motor, and changed impeller twice, didn't fix problem. Eventually found out my battery was going bad. Changed battery and no alarm since. It must have been over charging when running at high rpms and shorting out.

Spoke with to one of the neighbors at the camp that had the same issue, told me that he used boric acid from the pool place to clean his. Think he used one of those hose connections for fertilizer to send it into the ear muff's. This guy is a little off, maybe look into this before trying!!!!!!!!!!!! I am by no way saying do this, just thought it would give you a option to look into.

yeah i wouldnt flush any acid or any corrosive cleaner through you water system. taking the heads off and cleaning them is not hard at all. if you can take a spark plug out then you can do it yourself. only thing you need is new head gaskets, head cover gaskets and thermostat gaskets. also you will need a torque wrench when putting it back together. you can do it yourself for about 100-150 bucks. a shop will charge 500-800. look on thehulltruth.com and search. there have been a few guys on there who did write ups with pics showing how they did it.

Might check your oil pump in the oil tank too.

Well took the head cover off and found some water passages plugged up, and this motor has been flushed religiously. I guess it really dont matter with salt water though. Cleaned everything up, put new gaskets back on, and tested it out this morning and ran just fine.
