![]() Sat and Mon we hit the jetties. The bulls were hitting crab and mullet about equally and we boated 4 bull reds and 5 bull drum of Sat. Mon, we made it out of the western cut about 0900 and boated 4 really big nice redfish (all on mullet) before 1000, then ran back inside before the wind started to blow. Setting up at the green channel marker across from the boat ramp, we managed a couple more big bull reds right before and right after the slack tide as it was switching from outgoing to incoming. All in all, we are getting some exercise and putting a few in the freezer. |

Wed was our last day fishing, filling the big cooler with redfish, drum, sheepshead, and one whiting. Spent the day Thu cleaning fish. When the weather turned sour on Fri, we headed back to BR with a cooler full of fillets from our efforts. We had been running a bit low on fish in the freezer, but I am now told that we can expect fish on the menu 2-3 times a week through the winter.
I'd say that was finishing on a good note. We also picked up a 12' Ugly Stick at Walmart and I'm looking for a good Shimano spinning reel to add to it for a surf fishing rig now that we've seen what you are doing with just a bit more reach than we could manage. |

Check out the cabelas salt striker reel. My wife has one and I really like it. 9 titainium coated bearings. Its super smooth. She has the 65ss model. I think they are around 50 bucks.

As you can tell, I don't mind savving money on my tow vehicle, my boat, etc. But I like quality equipment for what determines whether or not the fish that bites makes it into the box. We've lost too many fish over the years due to issues with rods, reels, lines, leaders, and terminal tackle. We lose very few fish now. |

If its working for you I dont blame you one bit for not changing. Gota stick with what you know will get the job done for you. Heck I still use the same Ambassador 7000 I used when I river fished for cats. That reel has prolly caught a few thousand pounds of fish and it works just like the day I bought it.
