Yeah. I've done it a bunch. Don't need the golf ball but it helps.

It just isn't that hard without the golf ball. The trick is to hang 'em on a pulley, unzip with a good knife, use a pair of pliers to get started on each leg, and raise the deer on the pulley while you go so you're always at a good working height to put your weight into it. The shoulders and neck are much easier if you get them to a good working height. They are also easier to skin if you don't split the breastbone or ribcage when gutting. I learned to reach up into the chest cavity and remove the heart and lungs from the abdomen leaving the breastbone in tact until after skinning.

Thats how I do it but I use my 4wheeler winch instead of a truck. The winch gives you more control since its a slower speed. One man on the winch control and a knife man watching the deer. Sometimes a lil knife work is needed around entry/exit wounds to keep from pulling meat.

Yep. Works great. Been doin it for decades. Just ring the legs, cut em up to the midline and go with it. Works best if you hang em from the neck and do it that way. You only have to go down a couple inches instead of going legs first.

I've seen it done. It's quick and effortless. I've just always hung them by the neck and gone to work with a couple sharp knives. Unless its going to the taxidermist. That's the way I was taught as a youngun. .. Go with what works for you.

Hang by neck, no gutting, skin down, remove legs, blackstrap, neck meat, as much off carcus that's good, reach in with fingers at rear leg joint till hand goes in, remove tenderloin, then throw dat carcus away gut and all!!

We do it all the time but with the winch and a big rock. The way to go.

Amen to that brother....my buddy has been doing this for the past 2 years and he says gives him more time to drink beer but I agree with swamp snorkeler, brown pops while skinning is more rewarding
