Those are awesome cool. We were planning to put one together and even acquired some of the materials, then we discovered several facts that dissuaded us:

1) They built a fence and no longer allow driving to the water on Holly Beach. Carrying all the gear (including extra battery and compressor) out to the beach was unattractive.

2) These are illegal in Texas and likely to attract negative law enforcement attention in Florida and most other states where we may want to use them.

3) The ice bullets all need to be prepared in advance, and limit the baits to cut fish, when crab is our favorite. The places we stay have freezers that can only handle 1-2 dozen ice bullets, each one needs its own dedicated leader and sinker. That's a lot of prep considering the rate of gafftop action in the summer.

4) Dropping baits with a drone is even cooler, the drone allows cracked crab to be used, and allows each bait/leader/sinker to be assembled as needed and appropriate for the feeding preferences of the fish and the tides.

5) A couple pairs of waders were even cheaper and wading out waist deep and casting puts us into bull reds time after time. The pneumatic launcher and drone ideas are probably only really needed if we get serious about chasing sharks. We might get there, but we're not there yet.

A cheap kayak to paddle out your baits would be 100% the best and easiest option.... paddle out about 400yrds n drop a big bloody peice of bait.... LOTS of BIGGG sharks have been caught on the gulf coast lately... .

I've started that conversation with the teenagers most likely to do the paddling and we've started evaluating kayaks.

The last few trips to the beach, we've been observing the surf and asking the question, "how do we feel about paddling out under the current conditions?"

Colder water and a stiff S breeze often combine to create conditions no one is eager to paddle out it, though we like fishing the beach in fall and winter. All our research indicates that a drone will be effective dropping baits even with 15 mph S winds. Ain't nobody wants to paddle out a yak in that.

We live too far from the beaches to know for sure the conditions before we make a trip. When we make a trip we gotta make it happen regardless of conditions.

Paddling out in those conditions sounds like a good time to me. as long as you have nothing expensive on you to loose.

we used to paddle out regardless. make it through the breakers and keep on going. a SOT kayak wont sink anyway so if it flips just grab it.

I just think of a big a$$ topwater bait when I think of kayaking out there to drop bloody shark bait. The bigger the bait, the bigger the fish right?
