Default Prien Lake area 9-3-15

I have not fished the Prien Lake area in a long time and I had to brave the rainy weather today.

I started off fishing an inline spinner bait with a glow/char sand ell. I only caught one rat red while beating the banks. I switch to Chicken-on-the chain [think that is the name and caught one small speck.

I moved to a different area and started using a 1/8 oz jig head with a Matrix shad 3" Midnight mullet. On about the 3 rd cast I caught a 15" speck. Then nothing else in that area.

The sky was getting darker and I could see rain off in South Lake Charles. I was trying one of my spots and after a little while I saw that the water started moving a lot more. The water moving got the specks active. I caught 5 or 6 in about 15 minutes before the rain and wind started up.

I dropped anchor and got out the umbrella to wait out the rain. It came down fairly hard and the wind was kicking. This lasted about 15 minutes, and by now the water was not moving as much. When the rain let up... I went back to "catching"......3 or 4 more specks but on one was a keeper. I also caught a 20" red.

By now the water was not moving at all so I headed to Contraband bayou where I hoped to catch a few reds. One spot that has been good to me in the past...... produced 2 nice Reds [21" & 24"].

I would have stayed longer but it started to rain again. While heading back to the launch in Westlake I went through more rain. There was no rain when I got to the launch, but as I was backing up the trailer it started coming down hard again. So I waited 10 min and it let up.

The river water looked nice..... about 10+ inches visibility in most areas. I did not see any big schools of bait, but there was some bait in most areas.

Fun day on the water and probably caught a dozen or so fish total.
