Default Trolling Motor Help

I need to put a trolling motor on my 16' Alumacraft and was wondering what would be a good size to put on it and which would be best. I want a bow mounted one that's hand controlled, not foot. Any suggestions?

I looked at this one at Academy awhile back.

MOTORGUIDE GREAT WHITE 82HC TROLLING MOTOR

See Store For Pricing

This is what ya need. That way when the fish ain't biting you can have fun throwing whoever is in the back of the boat overboard when they are not paying attention.
Speed switch on high and just hit on, Someones going flying.

If you have room for 2 batteries, I would go with a 24 volt. Plenty of power when you need it and if you use it on lower speeds the batteries will last a couple of days. The 12 volt on high speed will pull down faster.

I don't really have the extra room for that 2nd battery. I don't have much storage at all in my boat but I'm in the process of making room right now.

A few years ago, I moved up from 45 # to 55# thrust 12 volt on my boat. I would have gone a little bigger.....but wanted to stay with one battery.

This is on a 15' aluminum hull boat. It moves the boat fairly good......but when you are trying to get to where a Trout just hit a 100+ yards away....it really feels slow.

Are you going to change to a weedless prop? If you fish a lot of grass you may want to. If you do go weedless you are going to lose some power. I have a 45 lb on my alumacraft 16 with the four blade weedless prop. It does pretty good with a hot battery and if you are fighting the wind and grass you will get about 5-6 hours good run time. If your going to run in open water, I'd leave the factory prop on.

I mostly fish somewhat open water but I will get a weedless prop so that I can swap out if I need to. 5-6 hours is plenty enough time for me. Thanks for that input. What kind did you put on your alumacraft?

Motor Guide. It's about 6 years old now and will be replaced soon. It has been used and abused. I run it thru everything I get into. Stumps, slime, hydrila, sand. I would have to get the model for you off the motor outside, but it has a telescopic handle. It was a transom mount, but I put it in a bow mount. I had a Minn Kota like the one you are looking at. I had to replace the speed selector switch out 3 times at $70 bucks a pop over about a 3 yr period. The motor is still good but needs a switch again so that is when I went to Motor Guide. I'm not saying Minn Kota is a bad company, but for me they put together a bad model.

It's always good to have an extra prop in the boat. For some reason, they have a habit of the prop screw backing out and everything sinking into the waters below.

Thanks for the input, I think I'll get a 45 lb since I won't be using it too much and if the wind is blowing too hard I can't take my boat out anyway so I don't need anything bigger than that.
