I got the flu shot once and it made me sick. Never again

The virus that is found in the shot is inactive. Your immune system must have already been fighting something else that caused the reaction. I'm not saying you didn't get sick or that it wasn't the flu, it's just that it may have been the trigger that caused another strain of the flu or some other virus to win its battle. The CDC recommends older folks or those with some type of immune system problem, healthcare workers, and youngins that may be more vulnerable to take them.

I have taken the shot every year for the last decade and have not had the flu yet. Of course I never had the flu before taking it either.
I'm getting it anyway, can't afford to get sick. |

Last year everyone in my house got the Flu except me. I was the only one who didn't get the shot. I think I'll pass again, Tamiflu is pretty readily available anyway.
My wife has to get it or she has to wear a mask while at work till early next year whenever she is contact with a patient. I just don't know whats in it and I feel the more **** you put into your body the worst off you are. |

I've had the flu 2 times in my life and never got a shot. I agree with the old saying...if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you treat yourself for something you aren't likely to have then I think you weaken your immune system.

If you are healthy then you probably don't need it. It's recommended as someone said above, for children, the elderly, healthcare workers, and those with weakened immune systems. My wife gets one by choice, since she teaches preschool.
I started taking them when I wS in the marines and continued when I got out since I was working on rigs. If I got sick on a rig I either sucked it up or went home and did not get my day rate. I give my kids the shots also. |

The Air Force has provided flus shots for me the past three years, and Hillsdale provided them before that. My wife takes my children to get them too at a local pharmacy. We've been much healthier overall the past few years with very few missed days of school and no health related absences from work other than pink eye four years ago for a few days. Way back in 2007, I had a bout of the flu that hit while I was teaching a class, and I collapsed in the bathroom after class and got to enjoy an ambulance ride and a day in the hospital. I make sure to get the flu shot every year now.

I get one every year and I also have never had the flu but I spend a lot of time traveling through the airports so I know I'm at an increased risk to encounter sickly people.

Most people use the word "flu" as a generic term for a simple winter viral infection. Anyone who has actually had influenza knows the difference. It is a serious infection, and many people die from it every year. We have tons of data over many years that supports vaccination as your best protection. I highly recommend it. I get mine every year. Educate yourself.

Oh, and I will add, that of all of the patients with positive influenza tests we had last year in my clinic (which was a very weak flu season), over 90% had not received the vaccination. That's no scientific study, but I like to stack the odds in my favor.

I personally recommend it. What's the harm. The benefits out way the disadvantages IMO. It's a killed virus in the flu shot so when you get the vaccine you should not get the minor flu like symptoms that you used to get with the shot years ago. As others have posted, older people, immuno-compromised, etc., healthcare workers, teachers, i.e. people that are around a lot of other people in a closed air environment it's highly recommended.
