I "HAD" a diesel Dodge that got 20mph on hwy but if you don't plan to work a truck I would stay away from diesel due to repair and maintenance cost and for stay away from Ford from 03-06 or when ever they got problems kinda fixed. I would look at newer F150 because they are rated up to 11500 towing if you need to pull and have lots of room inside and ride good

They lied to you! If your lookin for power/economy/durability I would definitely check out the ford f150 ecoboost. I heard they are decent on fuel and have ALOT of power. You ain't gonna find a 3/4 ton 4x4 gettin over 20+ mpg. If you do let me know.

most people will tell you there mpg's are what the DIC are telling them and not what the calculator is...that is hard to believe a truck with that much lift at 20 mpg...If you tow a bigger boat/camper it is nice to have a diesel. I am a duramax guy and will tell you its hard to beat the fuel mileage of the older dodges, the new ones not so much under a load. As long as I can help it ill never buy another gas truck. I am anti-6.0 ford diesel, thats a question that doesnt need to be debated, that powertrain has made its own reputation.

I drove the 7.3 for 8 years, awesome motor but not great
On fuel. 15 interstate and 12-14 in town. 10-12 pulling my boat. Mine was 4 door 4x4. Maybe 20mpg down a bridge driving 60. Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2 |

I got a 07 dodge 2500 diesel 4x4 with 35" tires and I got 100 hp tune on it and I can get 20-22 mpg any day of the week and have more power than I need and still pull whatever I want and still get 14-15 mpg on highway..

I just bought an 2012 f350. Driving out to karnes county Texas I got 19 on the display. Hand calc was 18.4. But if you don't need a diesel go check out the Ecoboost f150. I watched a guy pull a 20ft gooseneck cattle trailer full and it's pulled it just fine.

I run a 07 f250 4x4
EGR delete, 4 inch turbo back exhaust, cold air intake, SCT programmer. It will smoke the tires and blow some black smoke in performance mode . In the economy mode I have gotten 24 mpg on the highway if I baby it and keep my foot out of it. Pulling the boat of camper I get about 14mpg. Company truck is an 08 chevy 1500 4 door. On the highway I get about 18mpg in the city 12mpg to 14mpg All numbers are hand calculated. This is my second diesel truck and I would never have another gas burner, but I do tow a lot when I drive that truck. |

I had an 11 F250 and now have an 12 F150 Ecoboost. The 250 actually got better mileage for both city/highway. I find you have to baby the Ecoboost to get stated mileage, but the truck is so fast and so fun to drive it's hard to drive it easy.
The last time I towed my boat with the Eco I used the tow mode and was amazed that I was getting 16/17mpg above 40mph. |

I looked at new diesels for over a year. After alot of research, i went with an old Dodge Cummins 5.9. It aint pretty, but best motor out there!! And fuel is great!! I waited till i could find a 6-speedfor manual because of the auto trans issues. Also, truck had a brand new Moog front end. I got it for 9k cash vs 45k minimum for a new truck.

So I guess the answer is a smaller truck then, which is what I would've figured. Has anyone experimented with biodiesel?

I run a Dodge 2500 with diesel, ave 21 mpg everyday, pull my 6X14 utility loaded down to Illinois to hunt, ave 19 mpg. My maintenance is cheap I guess because never had any problems, just change oil so far on a 2006. Power is all you need, Cummings is true diesel, not converted V8. Makes a difference. Oh and no power converter to program for power, level kit to make front level with rear, stock rims with biggest tires you can put on them.
