Default Frozen Mullet

I hope this question is not too odd. Does anyone have some suggestions for storing mullets? I have been catching a few, but never on the days when I really need them. Any tips on freezing and if they would still be considered good to use for fishing? I have had them go mushy in the past.

Back when I commercial fished for catfish with my grandpaw we never had much luck freezing them. Put half frozen half fresh on a trout line and we would only catch on the fresh mullet. I think they are more attracted to the blood than the meat.
