i think any activity will adversely affect the deer. after the season, you want zero pressure so they still stay around and can relax. i believe the hogs need to be hunted but so much noise and motion is likely to push them out, even if they arent going after the deer.

Hogs compete with deer for resources and will even take fawns. Your deer will be better off without the hogs. Embrace it

its pretty easy to bait them with traps. its silent too. can catch 10 or more at a time then kill them with a .22

If you want to have deer I wouldn't run dogs. Dogs running around and barking plus people chasing them that's a good way to get rid of your deer. East Texas is tough hunting. Best to keep the place traveled as little as possible

I agree, dogs and deer do not work. I would think deer would leave the area with their suitcases, not to be seen again. just sayin'

Only year we ever run hog dogs on our lease before bow season was the best deer season we ever had on numbers and quality. All the surrounding leases where loaded with hogs and not seeing the deer. The hogs did not show back up till end of rifle season. This last season we did not run hog dogs before bow season and we were infested with hogs. Coincidence I think not

We run them here 3-5 times a year. plus shoot them year around deer season or not. And the deer have grown grown!!700 ac. With two feeders, but it might be different around here as I have pics of deer and pigs under the same feeder at the same time.

Used turn loose 50-60 high powered Walkers in a block and run for 4-6 hours. Go back and still hunt that evening and see deer. Hogs are a little more avoidant of dog areas. IMO

That is absolutely crazy, would never have thought of running dogs in an area I hunted deer. I know if we are on crown land and anyone sees a dog it's fair game and most people shoot them in fear they are running deer.
Cheers and safe hunting Canadian Black Bear Outfitters www.blackbearoutfitters.ca |

60 dogs in an area and still see deer that evening? That's pretty impressive there...

Running hogs in the spring after deer season shouldn't affect your deer hunting in the fall. It's true deer may be pushed out for a short amount of time, but they will shortly resume their old territories and filter back into the area. It might be beneficial actually to decrease the amount of hogs in the area because as already stated they will out compete deer in a hurry for food supplies, and they also will prey on newly dropped fawns. Dog running is effective for hogs. Trapping you have to do it properly and most people don't.

I've hunted public land my whole life and have killed plenty of deer, from the ground and climbers, during and after dog season. I think it does make them more cautious but they don't leave the country. They may not be coming out in the food plot or to the corn pile, during the day, but they're still there. I've never been on a lease but if the rules allow it, find some sign in the thick stuff and set up. The only way I've seen dog hunting hurt an area is when you have morons shooting and wounding everything that shakes a leaf. Other than that, I don't believe they go far or stay away for long.
