Default Fuel water sep.

When mounting a fuel water separator in a boat, does it have to be 100% vertical? On my aluminum boat I don't have any completely vertical place to mount it. I found a C-channel on my transom that i utilized to mount it. The thing is, is that it's between 10-15 degress off of vertical. will this effect the separation process? Thanks for any help in advance.
