Persimmons

I bought a piece of property that has a persimmon tree on it. We just picked a little over 5 gallons of them and have no clue what to do with them. We may have picked them a little early cause they are still firm. Any suggestions or recipes?

Feed em to the deer

I don't know too much about them but my father n law used to let them get really soft or they give you the cotton mouth...when ripe you can make preserve with them ....

Just tried a softer one a minute ago. Cotton mouth doesn’t even describe what that was. I’ll let them sit a few days and see. Otherwise they are going to the deer like calcutta said.

Once they are completely ripe they are delicious. If you don't like them raw look up a recipe for cake or muffins with them. They are ripe until they are almost mushy.

They are really good when ripe but like said got to be mushy....

Are they the one with the big seeds in the middle?

If so you can eat them hard. My father in law has a tree of the big soft ones and a tree of the ones that get a little harder. They have big seeds in them. We prefer them over he soft ones. You can clean em up and slice em like and apple and eat. They are delicious!!!

There was a seed, but not big at all.

Had a few of them that looked fully ripen so I gave it a second try. I?m kind of liking it. I can see this making a good jam for some biscuits. They are very sweet.

Loved them as a kid from my grandparent's tree. Let them sit out in the house until they got soft
