Default Twin bridges 8/21/11

Me and Bohunterbiff (Robert) hit the twin bridges at Vernon lake yesterday. Bought half a pound of shiners. Started off fishing around 5pm or so. Set out shiners for white perch and ended up bass fishing til the sun went down. I caught 3 or 4 small ones and a "slot" fish---15". Also knocked off a fish on my bucket list....... A PICKEREL !!!!!!

Robert caught a solid 3 lb bass about 16" or so. Sun set and we dropped the submersible light in the water. Robert started slaying the white perch, but I couldnt buy one. Kept getting nailed by Gar.

Kept one bass and 2 white perch. About the time we called it, a family of 5 came and started fishing, ended up giving them the fish, and left over shiners. Made my day !!!

Here's a pic of my bass and the pickerel.

I gotta say, I've never even heard of such a fish before! It looks like a cross between a bass and a gar!

its in the same family as a pike that is caught up north. I was amazed. Guy at work said its a alligator gar. This thing was too green to be a gar.

Doesn't even remotely look like an aligator gar. Scales are way different from any gar I've ever seen.

This is the fishing we are stuck doing until I get the steering fixed in my boat. The pickeral was a great bonus .... I used to fish for those all the time back east. Jordan slammed the bass on a crankbait.
