Default Cocodrie Trout Bite Remains Consistent

At daybreak the coastal storms popped and cracked but we found a gap and went for it. The wind from their wake was unwelcomed, but away we went. Got to the hot spot only to find dirty water and hardheads. We had to change zipcodes in search of better luck. To the west of us another shower popped up but once again we dodged the madness of the sky. Live shrimp plucked the water followed by our popping corks and the first cast a trout submerged it and wound up bathing in ice. I figured this was the beginning of a limit to follow but many casts later found empty water. At this point with conditions deteriorating I felt we were fighting a losing battle, so quickly we went to plan B, bull reds. Out came the cracked crab and the Penn Battles strained against the current. Ten minutes and not a bite. 15 minutes. Nothing. Then one of the boys threw out a live shrimp. The rod bent and I expected a hardhead. Keeper trout! What? Maybe we're on to something. The tide is falling good and the water is clean. Why not? Well, for one I've never ever caught trout at this location. I switched everyone over to carolina rigs with live shrimp and the trout kept coming! We settled down into battle and when the smoke cleared 50 trout were flopping around in the K2. We shut it down around 12:30 just as the tide was stalling. This little guy Reece Molerie said it was his best day if fishing ever. Pretty sure the smile says it all!
