Hairout American Vs. Continental Air

Ok, just an observation about the 2 airlines serving Lake Charles Regional airport. Prior to American Air coming in here a couple of years ago, Continental ran those regional jets b/w LC and IAH. Now they only run one jet a day and the rest are those old, crappy, noisy, uncomfortable turboprop planes. You have to get on a damn bus, get taken to the end of the airport in the terminal and walk a dang mile or so to get to the tram to go to C terminal. American Air has the regional jets to Dallas.

Is it a coincidence that Cont. changed the plane style after American came in or did they do this in other markets as well? Seems like to me that they are snubbing their noses at us Lake Charles folks for wanting another airline in here.

Anyone else feel the same way?

its like that in most small markets. The only jets are in the morning and evening for business travelers. also in lafayette continental runs more flights than american so they cant just use the same airplane

What Meaux said. I fly a lot. I used to fly out of Lafayette but the small planes and lack of flights made me look at BR and NO. I usually fly out of NO now because there are more flights and better planes.

I use btr all the time. Makes it much nicer to drive 10 Mins than an hour. Plus the prices are usually the same.

I flew about 20 flights last year all out of btr except my flight to London that was out of msy. Much rather btr

Every time we fly Cont., we fly the small Express Jets. Not the turbo props.
When American Eagle was in Lake Charles the first time, you could fly round
trip to Houston for $44. When American left, Cont. went up to $208 round
trip the very next week.

Simple supply and demand. Another airline comes in, demand falls, and they can't fill a large jet any more. You get the smaller prop planes instead.

As an FYI, the small planes are Continental Express, not Continental...the two airlines are not affiliated. Continental Express is owned by ExpressJet.

I flown every 2 weeks for the last 1yr and 3 months...I fly out of laf..Im with you though on the prop planes from l.c., sometimes I will switch to l.c. airport to come home if my office sticks me in houston for 4 hrs waiting to go to laf., I cant stand the prop planes, I would rather laf because they fly mostly embraer jets way smooter ride in rough weather..
