Trailer Brakes

Would it be a big deal to disconnect the trailer brakes on the boat trailer. I have a 22' nautic star. just noticed the brake pads are gone and the rotor is pretty much scarred beyond repair. I know i would need more time to stop, but is that really the only downside.

yak'em had a big cabin crusier that he took the breaks off... and it didn't do anything crazy.... just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to stop

It's just part of the game when you have a boat. It's constant maintenance. Do yourself and all of us a favor and replace your brakes. They were put there for a reason. How would you feel if you need to stop all of a sudden for a kid darting across the street and you could not stop in time. Just not worth it for the many sleepness nights you'd have after that. Keep your boat safe or sell it to someone that will.

I wish I had trailer brakes......I don't know what they were thinking not putting them on there.......

What's the usual weigh that the brakes are needed??
How difficult y'all figure it is to put them on?

i have found on trailers i own (boat and others) it is just as cheep to buy the backing plates compleat with everything then just getting shoe's, 4 bolts and then put the hub and wheel back on.

Remove them trailer brakes and get into an accident, the insurance adjuster will have a field day not paying, just fix'em, I get my parts from Herb's in Baton Rouge. My Fifth Wheel has trailer brakes and a set of pads runs a little over $100 bucks for top of the line. Save yourself some sleepless nights and repair em.
