Default Prien Lake / Big Lake 4-17, 4-18

Dad came to town to fish, but unfortunately the winds continued their assault. We hit Prien just before dark on 4-17 and the only place we could get out of the wind was the bank by L'auberge. The water clarity was good and we picked up a couple keeping our fingers crossed for Monday morning.

So, Monday morning we hit Big Lake. The flags at Calcasieu Point were flapping straight out at 6:45am, so I knew we were screwed. North end of the lake....chocolate milk. Super secret spot off the ship chanel.....dead. Choupique Bayou......dirty. We did see one cool thing. We did the obligatory LNG check-in before loading the boat. Well, the canal heading back to LNG was packed with birds working like crazy. I got excited for a minute when I saw the action on the top of the water....but when we got close, we realized what it was. It was lady fish chasing millions of baby shad. The birds were going ape sh*t gorging themselves.

We loaded the boat, went home, and picked up my boys. Went back to Prien and picked up a few keepers, and then let them drive the boat. Trip finished much better than it started.

The wind is just ludicrous right now. I can't wait to see the Lake slick again.

Always good to fish with the old man.
Amen on the wind has not let up in several weeks. When the shrimp start running the trout bite will also pick up. Good luck dock
